AD 1.4 — Aerodrome Certification and Inspection

All aerodromes open to international civil aviation in the Syrian Arab Republic are subject to certification and periodic inspection by GACA in accordance with ICAO Annex 14 — Aerodromes.

Certification Requirements

  • Physical Characteristics: Runway dimensions, strength (PCN), surface condition, taxiway system
  • Visual Aids: Approach lighting, runway lighting, taxiway lighting, apron lighting, signage
  • Obstacle Limitation Surfaces: Compliance with ICAO Annex 14 OLS requirements
  • Rescue and Firefighting: RFFS category and response time compliance
  • Aerodrome Emergency Plan: As required by ICAO Annex 14, Chapter 9

Obstacle Data

Obstacle data for each aerodrome, including obstacle limitation surfaces (OLS) and significant obstacles in the approach/take-off/circling areas, are published in the respective AD 2 sections and on the relevant aerodrome charts.

Aerodrome Condition Reporting

Aerodrome surface condition reports are issued using the Global Reporting Format (GRF) as applicable. Significant changes in runway surface conditions (contamination, braking action) are communicated via NOTAM or ATIS broadcast.
